Parasitic Tongue Louse (NSFW or any other place)

Look, I'm at work, in a beige office cubicle, and I don't have much time to research this, but this "Cymothoa exigua" (aka "tongue-eating louse") came to my attention via one of our few but incredibly dedicated and intelligent (clever, exceptionally discerning) readers.

It's a tongue parasite! A vampire! It attaches itself to your (if you're a fish) tongue and then sucks all the blood out till your tongue atrophies and then it acts like it's your prosthetic tongue.

DO NOT SLEEP WITH YOUR MOUTHS OPEN!

Please click here or here for more information. Thank you, intrepid reader, and thank you "WTF Evolution?"

Gross!

Ceci N'est Pas une Saucisse

Recently a very intelligent and pale friend of mine brought a new creature to my attention. I think she was trying to scare me, because just before she told me about it she was hiding in a closet dressed up like a clown yelling "RAAAAR" and waving her pale little arms around, but I try not to let these things get in the way of the savvy, intrepid reporting style you've all come to know and nominate for awards.

The naked mole rat.

I mean, sweet Jesus. Look at it. Apparently it lives in East Africa, underground, has no pain sensation in its skin, barely needs any oxygen to breathe, has a very low metabolism, huddles in creepy hairless clusters with others of its kind, can't get cancer, and is (not surprisingly) the longest-living rodent in the world. Also, look at its teeth.

If this weren't scary enough, the naked mole rat has been hiding in bunches of bananas, stowing away in ship cargo containers headed to the United States. Upon arrival, it quickly leaves the half-gnawed bananas behind, burrowing underground and building an elaborate system of tunnels leading to the most popular local organic hot dog stands, where it disguises itself as an Applegate Farms chicken and apple sausage.

It is thought that the naked mole rat is not acting from political or religious motives, but who really knows.

What Would MacGyver Do?

You may think of yourself as a master of survival, a woodsman and/or seafarer with the strength and reflexes to match any furry or fishy opponent. But sometimes the best tactical course of action is to blend in, and lay low. If camouflage works for the Navy Seals, it can work for you too.

So, if left in a pinch, here are a few disguises you can quickly pull together, MacGyver-style, using your camping gear and whatever else is in reach.

Of course you'll have to beware of a whole new batch of predators once in disguise. But at least you'll be part of the critter community of your choosing, so you'll have fewer enemies. Because as we all know, they ALL want to kill us.
